Hannah Loeb sings "File and Forget" (music by Rosamonde Safier, words by Lenore Oppenheimer, transcribed by Suzanne Davis, arr. by Garth Neustadter), D. J. Stanfill - trombone

Sean Maher sings "Blue Lady" (words and music by Rosamonde Safier, arr. by Thomas C. Duffy and William Paul), Garth Neustadter - violin

Melinda Paul sings "Because I've Known Love" (music by Rosamonde Safier, words by Estelle Safier, arr. by Garth Neustadter)

Archival recordings:

The singer is Sylvia Carr, with the composer at the piano. Lenore Oppenheimer wrote the lyrics. The song was copyrighted in 1940, and I assume this recording is from about that time. This recording is taken from a 78 made by Advertisers Recording Service Inc., 113 W. 57th St., New York City.

Rosamonde Safier Marks sits down at the piano ...

On November 26, 1968, my mother sat down at the Steinway grand in the living room and began to play a medley of songs from memory she must have learned several decades previously. I happened to be home from college for the Thanksgiving break, and set the reel-to-reel in motion to capture her mini-recital. Appropriately enough it begins with "The Man I Love," since she knew, and idolized, Gershwin. In the middle of this 10-minute tape, you can hear my mother say to me, "Turn it off!" Fortunately I didn't. The full set of songs on this video are:

The Man I Love (George & Ira Gershwin)
Someone to Watch over Me (George & Ira Gershwin)
You Took Advantage of Me (Rodgers & Hart)
Ain't Misbehavin' (Razaf, Waller, & Brooks)
File and Forget (Rosamonde Safier & Lenore Oppenheimer)
[voice]
[fragments]
Sweet Lorraine (Burwell & Parish)
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (Kern & Harbach)
Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered (Rodgers & Hart)
